Favstos Buzand

Favstos Buzand

(also Pavstos Buzand). Fifth-century Armenian historian; one of the first representatives of Armenian feudal historiography.

Favstos Buzand’s major work was The History of Armenia, of which only books three through six, dealing with events of the 330’s through 387, are extant. The work contains material on the history and foreign policy of Armenia until the country’s partition by Persia and the Roman Empire. It also contains information concerning the reforms of King Pap, the relations of the imperial government with the nakhararq and the church, and the history of Persia, Georgia, Caucasian Albania, and other areas.
