Elmenteita

Elmenteita

a Neolithic archaeological culture (fifth millennium B.C.) in East Africa. It was named after the burials found in Gamble’s Cave near Lake Elmenteita in Kenya. The dead were buried in a flexed position and covered with red ocher. Among the obsidian implements unearthed were long plates with dull edges, end scrapers, gravers, and microliths. Pottery included bowls and jugs. Also found were stone vessels and diverse beads, attesting to ties with other Neolithic cultures.
