Balukhatyi, Sergei Dmitrievich

 

Born Mar. 12 (24), 1893, in Feodosiia; died Apr. 2, 1945, in Leningrad. Soviet expert on literature; bibliographer; corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN SSSR; 1943).

Between 1919 and 1923, Balukhatyi was a professor at the University of Samara. Until the end of his life he was a professor at Leningrad University. Beginning in 1930 he directed the Department of 20th-century Russian Literature at the Institute of Russian Literature of the AN SSSR (Pushkin House). Balukhatyi’s research was devoted primarily to the works of M. Gorky and A. P. Chekhov.
