A malignant lymphocyte with one or more deep clefts, linear infoldings of the nucleus, condensed chromatin and indistinct nucleoli. Cleaved cells are typical of follicular small cleaved cell lymphoma, an intermediate grade lymphoma which, despite widespread disease at the time of diagnosis, has a relatively prolonged and non-aggressive course.
