Dubno

 

a city, the administrative center of Dubno Raion, Rovno Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. It is situated on the Ikva River (Dnieper basin), 5 km from the Dubno railroad station on the Rovno-L’vov line. Population, 25,000 (1970). Dubno is the site of a foundry and machine plant, an asphalt works, a plant producing commercial equipment, and a plant for saturating lumber. The food industry, which has also been developed, includes a meat combine, a combine for drying and canning vegetables, and a sugar factory and a creamery. There are also factories for processing hops, and plants producing furniture, fashionable haberdashery, and knitted goods. Dubno has pedagogical, medical, and adult education schools, a sovkhoz-technicum, and a museum of local lore. Dubno has been in existence since at least 1099.
