DuBois, Cora

(1903– ) cultural anthropologist; born in New York City. A Barnard College graduate, she received a Ph.D. from the University of California; Berkeley in 1932 and studied the Indian tribes of northern California and Oregon while teaching at Berkeley. Fieldwork in Indonesia in the late 1930s led to her landmark culture and personality study, The People of Alor (1944). She was director of research for the Institute of International Education from 1951–54 and taught at Radcliffe from 1954–69.
