D0410600 (do͞o-bois′), W(illiam) E(dward) B(urghardt) 1868-1963. American civil rights leader who cofounded the NAACP, edited journals, such as Crisis (1910-1934), and wrote books, including Color and Democracy (1945), that promoted the concerns of African Americans and Africans.
