Dubossary Reservoir

the reservoir formed in 1954-55 by the dam of the Dubossary Hydroelectric Power Plant on the Dnestr River, in the Moldavian SSR. Area, 68 sq km; volume, 0.49 cu km; length up the Dnestr, 125 km; maximum width, 1.5 km; average depth, 7.2 m; and maximum depth, 19 m.

The shores of the Dubossary Reservoir are high, steep, and, in a number of places, precipitous. The reservoir’s level varies within limits of 3.8 m; the current is regulated on a daily and weekly basis. The Dubossary Reservoir has improved the navigational conditions on the Dnestr; it has permitted the irrigation and watering of about 40,000 hectares of land in the Dnestr region. Located on the reservoir’s banks are the towns of Rybnitsa and Rezina.
