Broomfield was the only city in CO to lie in portions of four counties (Jefferson, Adams, Weld, and Boulder), which caused problems for local residents in accessing services. Consequently, on Nov 3, 1998, the City and County of Broomfield was created by constitutional amendment. After a three-year period in which to organize, it became CO's 64th county on Nov 15, 2001. The US Bureau of the Census recognized the new county in Feb of 2002, and its census status will become official after the 2010 Census.
