Born 1620, in Castle Lyons, Ireland; died Apr. 5, 1684, in London. English mathematician.

Brouncker was one of the founders and the first president of the London Royal Society (1662-77). In 1668, Brouncker published a method of expansion for the logarithm of a rational number in an infinite series, thus, along with N. Mercator, I. Newton, and others, laying a basis for the representation of functions with the help of infinite series.
