Crown CorporationA corporation owned by the government of Canada or one of its provincial governments. The federal or provincial government has a large say in setting the budget of crown corporations and appoints the board of directors, but in general they operate as private companies on a day-to-day basis. However, crown corporations are sometimes thought to be less efficient than other companies and several, such as Air Canada, have been privatized. A famous example of a current crown corporation is the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. |
