Diels, Ludwig

Born Sept. 24, 1874, in Hamburg; died Nov. 30, 1945, in Berlin. German botanist; the brother of O. Diels; appointed director of the Botanical Garden and Museum in Berlin-Dahlem in 1921; student of and successor to the German botanist A. Engler. Diels traveled in Australia, South Africa, and North and South America. He was the author of works on the taxonomy and geography of flowering plants.
