In central MN, north of Saint Cloud; established May 23, 1857 (prior to statehood) from Cass and Aitkin counties. Name Origin: For the Crow Wing river, which forms the southwestern border of the county; the Ojibway called the river Kagiwigwan or Gagagiwgwuni 'crow wing' or 'raven feather.'
