Buozzi, Bruno
Born Jan. 31, 1881, in Pontelagoscuro, Ferrara; died June 4, 1944, in La-Storta, Rome. Figure in the Italian trade union movement.
From 1911 to 1925, Buozzi was secretary of the Metalworkers’ Federation which belonged to the General Confederation of Labor (GCL). He was general secretary of the GCL in 1925 and 1926. He pursued a reformist policy. After the fascists adopted the so-called emergency laws in November 1926, he emigrated to France. There, in 1927, he recreated the GCL, which had been disbanded in Italy. In 1941 he was arrested by the German fascists in France and turned over to the fascist Italian government. Buozzi was released in August 1943 and played a prominent role in uniting all trade union organizations for the struggle against fascism. Then he fell again into the hands of the German fascists and was killed.
