crucial angle of Gissane crucial angle of Gissane An angle directly inferior to the lateral process of the talus, formed by a line drawn along the posterior facet of the calcaneus and a line drawn from the anterior process to the sulcus calcaneus, and best seen on a lateral plain film of the calcaneus and hind foot. The crucial angle of Gissane is one of two angles (the other is Bohler’s angle) commonly assessed when evaluating patients with calcaneal fractures; traumatic alteration of these angles reflects fracture severity—a goal of surgical management is restoration of these angles to normal values. |
