Bennett, John W. (William)

(1915– ) anthropologist; born in Milwaukee, Wis. He taught at Washington University, St. Louis, Mo., (1959). His interdisciplinary studies covered a broad range of subjects including human ecology, social and cultural theory, Asian and North American society, and economic development; his books include Paternalism in the Japanese Economy (1963), Northern Plainsmen (1969, revised 1976) and Of Time and the Enterprise (1982).
