Elva
(lolva, liulva), a river in Komi ASSR, a right tributary of the Vym’ River (in the basin of the Vychegda River). Length, 255 km; basin area, 3,340 sq km. Its source lies in the southern spurs of Chetlasskii Kamen’ (Timan’ Ridge). It is fed predominantly by snow. The Elva’s average flow rate is about 11 cu m per sec. The lower part of the river is used to float timber.

a city in Tartu Raion, Estonian SSR. Elva is located on the Elva River in the Chudskoe Lake basin, 28 km southwest of Tartu; the city has a railroad station on the Tartu-Valga line. Elva has branches of the Sangar Garment Factory, the Linda Leather Accessories Factory, the Areng Textile Factory, and the Tartu Dairy Products Combine. The city also has a museum of local lore.
