Differential galvanometer

a galvanometer having two coils or circuits, usually equal, through which currents passing in opposite directions are measured by the difference of their effect upon the needle.

[‚dif·ə′ren·chəl ‚gal·və′näm·əd·ər] (electricity) A galvanometer having a magnetic needle which is free to rotate in the magnetic field produced by currents flowing in opposite directions through two separate identical coils, so that there is no deflection when the currents are equal.
