[¦des·məl ¦bīn·ə·rē ′swich] (electricity) A switch that connects a single input lead to appropriate combinations of four output leads (representing 1, 2, 4, and 8) for each of the decimal-numbered settings of its control knob; thus, for position 7, output leads 1, 2, and 4 would be connected to the input.
