Alieva, Fazu

Born Dec. 5, 1932, in the village of Ginichutl’, Khunzakh Raion, Dagestan ASSR. Soviet Avar poet; People’s Poet of Dagestan (1969). Member of the CPSU since 1965. Graduated from the M. Gorky Literary Institute in 1961.

Alieva was first published in 1949. She is the author of the poetry collections Native Village (1959), Spring Wind (1962), I Give Out Rainbows (1963), and The Moment (1967); the narrative poems On the Seashore (1961) and In the Heart of Every Person Is Il’ich (1965); and the novel Fate (1964). Alieva’s poems—the collections The Blue Road (1959), The Carving on the Stone (1966), and The Eighteenth Spring (1968)—have been translated into Russian. Her novel The Wind Won’t Carry Away the Clod of Earth (1967) was awarded a prize in the N. Ostrovskii Competition. She has been decorated with the order of the Badge of Honor.
