Connell, Evan S., Jr. Connell, Evan S. (Shelby), Jr.(1924– ) writer; born in Kansas City, Mo. After graduate study at Columbia, Stanford, and San Francisco State Universities, he lived in California, edited Contact magazine (1959–65), and wrote a wide range of verse, realistic fiction, and nonfiction. His many books include the novels Mrs. Bridge (1959) and Mr. Bridge (1969), and the best-selling historical work Son of the Morning Star (1984). |
