[‚dif·ə′ren·chəl ′stēm kal·ə′rim·əd·ər] (engineering) An instrument for measuring small specific-heat capacities, such as those of gases, in which the amount of steam condensing on a body containing the substance whose heat capacity is to be measured is compared with the amount condensing on a similar body which is evacuated or contains a substance of known heat capacity.
