Beshkov, Anastas Stoianov

 

Born July 10, 1896, in Varna; died Jan. 18,1964, in Sofia. Bulgarian geographer and academician (1958). Graduated from the Higher Trade School in Leipzig and the University of Sofia.

Beshkov was a professor of economic geography at the University of Sofia from 1937 to 1964. He was head of the Bulgarian Geographical Society from 1948 to 1964. His principal works are The Transport Problem in the Dobrudja (1951), Economic Geography of the Balkan Countries (1951), and Geography of Industry, Agriculture, and Transport (1957). Beshkov was one of the editors in chief of the monograph Geography of Bulgaria (vols. 1–2, 1961–66). He was Dimitrov Prize laureate in 1953.
