Buatta, Mario

(1935– ) interior decorator; born in Staten Island, N.Y. Following design study at Parsons, he established Mario Buatta, Inc. (1963). As the inimitable "Prince of Chintz," he was sought after for his interpretation of the English country house style. In the 1980s he began to design textiles and furniture. Together with Mark Hampton he redecorated the Blair House (1985) in Washington, D.C.
