Buchach Peace of 1672

 

treaty between Turkey and Rzecz Pospolita (the Commonwealth of Poland and Lithuania) concluded on October 18, in the city of Buchach (now in Ternopol’ Oblast, Ukrainian SSR) after the defeat of Rzecz Pospolita in the war of 1672. According to the Buchach treaty, Podolia was given to Turkey and Right-Bank Ukraine came under the rule of Hetman Doroshenko, who acknowledged his dependence under the sultan. Rzecz Pospolita had to pay a ransom for the lifting of the Turkish siege of L’vov and an annual tribute. However, the Polish Sejm did not recognize the Buchach Peace, and the war was resumed in 1673. (It continued until the conclusion of the Zhuravno Peace of 1676.)
