Dukla Pass

Dukla Pass

(Polish, Dukielska Przełęcz; Czech, Dukelský Průsmyk), a pass in the Eastern Beskids (the Carpathians), on the border between Poland and Czechoslovakia. The pass has an elevation of 502 m and is located near a settlement of the same name. The highway between Krosno and Prešov crosses the pass. During the Great Patriotic War (1941-45), the Soviet Army, together with units of a Czechoslovak army corps, captured the settlement of Dukla after fierce fighting on Sept. 20, 1944, and Dukla Pass on Oct. 6, 1944, thereby opening the way for the liberation of Czechoslovakia.
