Dulebs

Dulebs

an Eastern Slavic group of tribes who lived in Western Volyn’. According to the chronicles, the Dulebs suffered greatly from an invasion of the Avars in the seventh century; in 907 the druzhina (prince’s retinue) of Dulebs participated in Oleg’s campaign against Tsar’grad (Constantinople). The Dulebs and their “king” are mentioned by the Arabian geographer Al-Masudi. In the tenth century, this union of tribes apparently dissolved, and the group became part of Kievan Rus’ under the names Volyniane and Buzhane.
