Special Features:A unique feature of Buckeye Lake is its floating island, actually a piece of ancient glacial bog which buoyed up as the water level rose. On this natural raft, designated as a state nature preserve, can be found some of the most unusual plant life in Ohio. Known as Cranberry Bog, the floating island is a nursery for such unique oddities as the tiny berries of its namesake, rare orchids, the tiny sundew, and the carnivorous pitcher plant. Access to Cranberry Bog is only by written permission from the Division of Natural Areas and Preserves.
