consented autopsy

consented autopsy

An autopsy performed in the UK after permission has been sought from, and granted by, the next-of-kin. A consented autopsy is essentially the same as a hospital autopsy, in contrast to a coronial autopsy, which is performed at the request of the Coroner (or Procurator Fiscal in Scotland). Consented autopsies are usually performed to answer specific questions about the decedent’s medical history.
