Dolci, Carlo Dolci, Carlo or Carlino (kär`lō, kärlē`nō dōl`chē), 1616–86, Florentine painter. Among his best-known paintings are the heads and half-figures of Jesus and the Mater Dolorosa, in which he emphasized expressions of suffering and sorrow. His works are best studied in Florence in the Uffizi and Pitti galleries and the Corsini Palace. Among them are the celebrated Magdalen, St. Cecelia, and St. Sebastian. |
