Rotation of fiber coil is sensed by the laser source as phase shift and is converted into digital indications.A fiber-optics gyro measures a rotation by passing a coherent light both ways simultaneously around a loop of mono-mode optical fiber. The rotation is measured instantly by a phase shift at the output. This device is not a gyro, even though it performs the same function as a gyroscope.
