Budzynski, Stanislaw

Born Sept. 9, 1894, in Warsaw; died Aug. 22, 1937. Figure in the Polish labor movement.

Beginning in 1912, Budzyński was a member of Social Democracy of the Kingdom of Poland and Lithuania (SDKPL), and in 1913 he was elected a member of its Warsaw committee. From late 1916 he was a member of the RSDLP (Bolshevik). He was a participant in the April Conference of the RSDLP(B) and a member of the Bolshevik faction of the Moscow soviet. In the period of the October armed revolt in Moscow, he was a member of the Military Revolutionary Committee. In the summer of 1918 he went to Poland, where he was a member of the Central Administration and the Warsaw committee of SDKPL. He took part in the Unity Conference (December 1918), at which the Communist Party of Poland was founded. He was arrested in 1919, and in April 1920, after an exchange of political detainees, he arrived in Soviet Russia. In 1921-22 he worked with the Soviet embassy in Latvia; from 1924 to 1927 he was a member of the Polish bureau of the Central Committee of the ACP (Bolshevik) and took part in the third to sixth conferences of the Communist Party of Poland. From 1928 he was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Western Byelorussia (which was part of the Communist Party of Poland). From 1930 to 1934, he was a member of the Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Byelorussia. He was also editor of the newspaper Zviazda (Star). From 1934 he was professor and chairman of the subdepartment of Leninism at the International Leninist School in Moscow.
