Bible Point State Historic Site
Location:From Island Falls, take the Merriman Road to its end, thenfollow the hiking trail along the western shore of the West Branch ofthe Mattawamkeag River, approximately 1 mile. The site is not staffed.
Special Features:As a young man, Teddy Roosevelt camped, hunted, and fishedin this area. It was reported that each day he would take his Bible andhike to a point of land on the Mattawamkeag River and First Brook,where he would read the Bible. A plaque at the site commemoratesRoosevelt's love for the area.
