Bugaev, Nikolai Vasil’evich
Born Sept. 2 (14), 1837, in the village of Dusheti, in present-day Dusheti Raion, Georgian SSR; died May 29 (June 11), 1903, in Moscow. Russian mathematician. Father of the writer A. Belyi. Professor at Moscow University from 1866.
The majority of Bugaev’s numerous mathematical works deal with the analysis and theory of numbers. Bugaev was one of the founders of the Moscow Mathematical Society (he became president in 1891) and its organ, Matematicheskii sbornik (Mathematical Collection), in which his major works were published.
