Dumper a self-unloading machine for hauling loose materials over short distances (from 1 to 2 km). A dumper is more productive than a dump truck for work over short distances because it is more maneuverable and because it can be unloaded faster and can work “shuttle fashion” without turning around, moving at the same speed in either direction. The maneuverability of a dumper is due to its short wheelbase and the large turning angle of its driven wheels, which are smaller in diameter than the driving wheels. For shuttle operation a dumper has a reversible driver’s seat and a duplicate set of controls. dumper
