Big Foot


Big Foot (b. Si Tanka) (also known as Spotted Elk)

(?1825–90) Minneconjou Teton Sioux chief; born in northern Great Plains. One of the first Sioux to raise a corn crop on the Cheyenne River, he traveled to Washington, D.C., as a tribal delegate and worked to establish schools throughout the Sioux territory. He was among those massacred at Wounded Knee in December 1890.
