Dombai Poliana

 

a basin between mountains at the foot of the northern slope of the Glavnyi, or Vodorazdel’nyi, Range of the Greater Caucasus, at the sources of the Alibek, Amanauz, and Dombai-Ul’gen rivers (basin of the Teberda, a tributary of the Kuban’), in the Karachai-Cherkess Autonomous Oblast, Stavropol’ Krai. Dombai Poliana is situated at an altitude of 1,620 m on the Teberda Preserve. The average temperature in January is 6.8°C and in July 14.2°C. The annual precipitation ranges from 1,000 to 1,500 mm. The slopes are covered with a forest (mainly firs) to an altitude of 2,300 m, and the summits attain an altitude of 4,046 m (Dombai-Ul’gen). Dombai Poliana is a mountaineering and tourist region in the Western Caucasus. There is an urban-type settlement, Dombai.
