Dunham, Ethel Collins

(1882–1969) pediatrician; born in Hartford, Conn. A problem solver, organizer, and effective mediator, her main contribution was the establishment of nationwide standards for the care of newborns and premature infants (1948). Besides teaching at Yale University's Medical School (1924–35), she conducted landmark studies for both the United States Children's Bureau and the American Pediatric Society.
