Alekseevskii, Evgenii Evgen’evich

Born Mar. 7 (20), 1906, in Bobrov (present-day Voronezh Oblast). Soviet Party and state figure. Member of the CPSU since 1925. An expert in agronomy and land development.

Born to the family of a teacher, Alekseevskii graduated from the Ukrainian Academy of Agricultural Sciences. During 1923–25 he was active in komsomol work. From 1929 to 1932 he was engaged in responsible Party work in the Tadzhik SSR. Between 1931 and 1941 he served as deputy people’s commissar of agriculture, deputy people’s commissar of water conservation of the Tadzhik SSR, head of the Kalinin Oblast agricultural administration, and head of the agricultural division of the Kalinin Oblast committee of the Party. From 1941 to 1946 he was commissar and head of the political section of the Caucasian Guard Division. He participated in battles on the Western, Briansk, and First Byelorussian fronts. Between 1946 and 1962, Alekseevskii served as first deputy minister of agriculture of the Ukrainian SSR, head of the Central Administration of Water Conservation under the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR, and chairman of the State Committee of the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR for Water Conservation. From 1963 to 1965 he was chairman of the State Production Committee on Irrigated Agriculture and Water Conservation of the USSR and minister of the USSR. Since 1965 he has been minister of land development and water conservation of the USSR. At the Twenty-third Congress of the CPSU (1966), Alekseevskii was chosen candidate member of the Party’s Central Committee. A deputy at the seventh session of the Supreme Soviet, he has been awarded two Orders of Lenin as well as other orders and medals.
