Stepanova, Evgeniia Akimovna
Born Dec. 25, 1899 (Jan. 6,1900), in the city of Balashov, in what is now Saratov Oblast. Soviet historian. Doctor of historical sciences (1959); Honored Scientist of the RSFSR (1971). Member of the CPSU since 1918; candidate member of the Central Committee of the CPSU from 1952 to 1956.
From 1918 to 1928, Stepanova worked in the party and taught. In 1931 she graduated from the Institute of Red Professors. Between 1931 and 1952 she often served as a senior research worker at the Institute of Marxism-Leninism of the Central Committee of the CPSU; she was deputy director from 1953 to 1958 and has been a consultant since 1958. Stepanova wrote the biography Friedrich Engels (published 1935; Lenin Prize of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, 1936; 2nd ed. revised and expanded, 1956) and collaborated with a group of writers on the books Karl Marx: A Biography (1968; 2nd ed., 1973) and Friedrich Engels: A Biography (1970). She also compiled and edited the first and second editions of the works of Marx and Engels.
Stepanova has been awarded the Order of the October Revolution, two other orders, and various medals.
