Evgenii Matveevich Sidorkin

Sidorkin, Evgenii Matveevich

Born May 7, 1930, in the village of Lebiazh’e, Kirov Oblast. Soviet graphic artist. Honored Art Worker of the Kazakh SSR (1965).

Sidorkin studied at the Leningrad Academy of Arts from 1952 to 1957 under A. F. Pakhomov and lu. M. Neprintsev. His expressive use of silhouette and his truthful linear treatment of the human face and body are epic and exalted in manner or animated with humor. Sidorkin’s works are permeated with folk-loric associations (for example, his illustrations for M. Auezov’s novel The Path of Abai, linocut, 1960). Sidorkin also paints monumental works.
