Central National Committee
Central National Committee
(Centralny Komitet Narodowy), the executive body of the insurgent organization that planned and carried out the Polish Uprising of 1863–64. The committee was founded in Warsaw in October 1861 as the underground Committee of the Movement; it was renamed the Central National Committee in summer 1862. Its members included the Polish revolutionaries J. Dabrowski, I. Chmieleñski, Z. Padlewski, B. Szwarce, and S. Bobrowski. At the inception of the uprising, on Jan. 10 (22), 1863, the committee declared itself the provisional national government; in May 1863 it was renamed the Rzad Narodowy (National Government).
