consultant clinic

consultant clinic

A clinic which is part of the service provided by one or more specialties. A consultant is normally in overall charge of the clinic, but may not always be present. The patients are seen by consultants or other healthcare professionals within the team.
Raison d'être
Management of patients referred by GPs, consultant colleagues or other healthcare provider(s). Consultant clinics may encompass assessment, investigation, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up or counseling.
Some UK uses of the word clinic differ from American medical English. As used here, clinic means “a period during which a consultant (specialist) sees patients”, i.e., clinical session.
