Pavlovskii, Evgenii Vladimirovich

 

Born Apr. 9 (22), 1901, in Moscow. Soviet geologist. Doctor of geological and mineralogical sciences (1941); Honored Scientist of the RSFSR (1961).

In 1928, Pavlovskii graduated from the Moscow Academy of Mines, where he studied under V. A. Obruchev. From 1932 to 1941 he worked at the Geological Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR; he renewed his affiliation with the institute in 1956. He began working at various geological institutions in Eastern Siberia in 1941 and was chairman of the presidium of the Eastern Siberian division of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR from 1953 to 1956. He was a professor at the University of Irkutsk from 1946 to 1956. Pavlovskii’s chief works are on the geology of Siberia and the nonalpine regions of Western Europe and on the general problems of geotectonics, especially in the early stages of the earth’s development.
