Evgraf Tiurin

Born 1792; died 1870. Russian architect.

From 1805 to 1813, Tiurin studied in Moscow at the architecture school of the Kremlin Construction Expedition. His early works were done in the Russian Empire style, for example, the reconstruction of the palace complex in Arkhangel’skoe (1817–27) and a number of structures in the Neskuchnyi Palace ensemble in Moscow (1830’s). Beginning in the second half of the 1830’s, Tiurin often designed more complicated facades, introducing individual eclectic elements that upset the stylistic unity of his structures, for example, Bogoiavlenskii Elokhovskii Cathedral in Moscow (1837–45).
