du Pont, Pierre Samuel, IV

(1935– ) governor, U.S. representative; born in Wilmington, Del. He served as technical representative for Du Pont Nemours & Company (1963–70), going to the U.S. House of Representatives (Rep., Del.; 1971–77). As governor of Delaware (1977–85), he promoted business development by relaxing banking and credit laws, and opposed capital punishment. He practiced law in Washington afterward.
