Edward Charles Jeffrey
Jeffrey, Edward Charles
Born May 21, 1866, in St. Catharines, Canada; died Apr. 19, 1952, in Cambridge, Mass. American botanist. Professor at Harvard University (1902-33).
Jeffrey’s main works are on the evolutionary morphology of higher plants and on paleobotany. He was the first to divide the vascular plants into Lycopsida and Pteropsida. He developed P. van Tieghem’s stelar theory.
