Fizuli

 

(until 1959, Kariagino), a city and administrative center of Fizuli Raion, Azerbaijan SSR. Fizuli is located on the Kuruchai River, a tributary of the Araks, 32 km northwest of the Goradiz railroad station on the Baku-Yerevan line. It has a creamery, a winery, and plants for the manufacture of reinforced-concrete products, asphalt, and fabrics. A people’s amateur theater is located in Fizuli. The city was renamed in honor of the Azerbaijani poet Fizuli.
