Durdyev, Khaldurdy

Born Mar. 22, 1909, in the aul (village) of Kongur, present-day Mary Raion. Soviet Turkmen poet: member of the CPSU since 1951.

Durdyev has contributed to Turkmen newspapers and journals since 1930. His works are characterized by a concern with topical issues, as exemplified by the verse collection My Weapons (1947). His poems “To the Old Man Voter,” “In Memory of a Friend,” “Soviet Soldier,” and “Dnieper” and the ballad “The Fugitive” have gained wide popularity. Durdyev has also translated the works of A. S. Pushkin, I. A. Krylov, N. A. Nekrasov, V. V. Mayakovsky, S. Stal’skii, S. Vurgun, Dzhambul, and A. Isaakian.
