Bunge Land

 

situated in the central part of the Anzhu Islands, between the islands of Kotel’ny and Faddeevskii. Area, about 6, 200 sq km. It is a sandy, somewhat broken plain, 6-8 m in altitude, with some hills rising to 45 m, resembling a desert; there are widely disseminated eolian forms that are not fixed by vegetation. Named in honor of the Russian zoologist A. A. Bunge (son of Aleksandr Andreevich Bunge), who participated in geographical expeditions in the 1880’s.
